Now celebrating over 30 years in the arts, the charismatic author and illustrator Nicholas Halliday loves to bring his experience and enthusiasm to schools, charities, book fairs, events and libraries. His greatest pleasure is reading from his books and inspiring children to new ways of thinking about character development and storylines. Motivational speaking is also a passion for Nicholas who draws on a life rich in texture. Through his talks, he aims to instil integrity and a spirit of adventure in the hearts and minds of young people.

Please take a moment to read the outlines below and then, when you're ready, make contact. We're always open to discussing your plans, and you can book the popular full day or a half day, morning or afternoon, seven days a week.

Visit outline

Nicholas is very flexible with what he does during a visit and we are happy to discuss your events, budgets and timings.

For schools, he will usually attend each classroom in turn and, depending on the age of the children, spend between 20 minutes to an hour in each. Nicholas reads from his books, with each child receiving readers copies so as to fully appreciate the stunning illustrations. Children can then have a brief Q&A session which, when time allows, he follows with his inspirational writing and illustration workshops where he likes to engage each child one-to-one. For younger children, Nicholas carries plush toys and finger puppets to help in telling the stories.

Depending on how the day is planned, Nicholas can also speak during an assembly, when he may have a Q&A session with the whole school. This is often useful in larger schools where only some children are given classroom visits. However, due to the intimate nature of Nicholas' stories and illustrations he tries to avoid presenting and reading in assembly, preferring to reserve this for the classroom.

Timetables

Once a booking is confirmed we can discuss a timetable for the visit. We allocate six hours for a full school day and three hours for a half day, however, Nicholas often agrees to make adjustments to accommodate your event prior to the visit. Please make contact to discuss your plans.

Motivational speaking

Nicholas Halliday has worked as an independent author, illustrator, publisher and designer for over 30 years. His motivational speaking draws on his travel and success in the arts and business against which is reflected a childhood marked by bullying, dyslexia and grief.

Nicholas' mix of humour, honesty and unique approach to life is truly motivating and inspirational to young minds. Please take a moment to make contact to discuss how we might bring Nicholas' original character and voice to your children.

Book signing

Nicholas will sign books during any event and we can also arrange an after-school signing and/or supply a PDF book order form which can go out with children following the visit at your school's discretion.

When order forms are sent out from a school, we suggest allowing one full week for these to be returned to your office. Order forms and payment are then either posted to us or we arrange collection. Nicholas signs and dedicates every edition where instructed and books are delivered to the school office normally within six working days.

THANK YOU TO NICHOLAS HALLIDAY FOR VISITING OUR SCHOOL YESTERDAY TO SHARE HIS BOOK, ‘THE LONELY TREE.’ IT WAS FASCINATING TO LEARN HOW THE FILMIC ILLUSTRATIONS WERE CREATED AND TO FOCUS ON SUCH AN EMPATHETIC STORY WITH THE CHILDREN.
